| When Andy folded the LF and the site, Bernard and Bert both felt that there was a need to preserve some of the conent of the fanzine - in particular the pieces on the history and heritage of the club that couldnt be found anywhere else.
They had also been working on a lot of new material with half an idea to publish a book.
LF was badly missed by a lot of us, espescially the laid back style of the messageboard.
I got in touch with Bernard and offered my embryonic web skills to set up a new site, and after a month of mourning we launched an embryonic YOTAC, all done out with wood style graphics and brass in true virtual pub style!
As one of the first sites i had made it had its fair share of programming howlers, but the bit that visitors actually see worked ok
The site has been through a couple of re-designs since then to accomodate the growing content, and to modernise the look a bit.
The current site still has the unique content, but its basic html scripting is creaking with age and we are well overdue another re-dsign.
Basically it lomg ago outgrew the original design, and as the internet has evolved it has become more and more dated and limiting.
All the updates have to be done bay hand, each on a new page, with us also having to update all the links fromn the other pages. All this is then laboriously uploaded.
You can see why we arent as fast with the updates as we sometimes should be....
In the beginning we maybe avaeraged a hundred or so regular visitors each month, but as the club progressed to the Premier League so did the hits...Its gone a bit bonkers over the last couple of years with us having to double the webspace and bandwidth to accomodate the sits visitors.
This isnt just intended to be a cosmetic makeover, (lick of paint and some new flock wallpaper), but a move to adopting some of the scripting techniques and user interactive facilities that were not available when the site first launched way back when. I hope it will make it a lot easier to find the historical content, to research past players and the history of the club, as well as sharing that info with other people via email or RSS news feeds etc.
We know it will be easier for us all to add new news items and content, so expect to see a lot more updates, a lot faster than before!
Basically, more of the same, but bigger, faster and hopefully better!
