Response to Messerschmitt BF-109. Primeros ejemplares en España [Parte 1]

[IMG][/IMG]

Amigos, thank you very much for your additions to parte 1. I hereby include some pictures and profiles that I received from Antonio Armario and Vladimir Nikiforov. I hope you will find them interesting too:

[IMG][/IMG]

1) Nice profile of 6-2, thank you Vladimir

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

2 – 4) Profile (Antonio) and two pictures of the belly landed 6-3 (Vladimir)

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

5 + 6) Profile and picture of 6-8 (Vladimir), together with 6-9 already irreparable on 13-08-1937 according to Lützow’s diary. By the way, is there anybody who has a picture of 6-9?

So far the look back on parte 1 and let us continue with the Bf 109B number 6-11:

[IMG][/IMG]

7) This particular plane was flown by one of 2./JG 88’s aces, Lieutenant L.T. Pingela who scored 6 victories.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

8 – 11) 6-12, flown but also crashed and reduced to a total loss by Hermann Stange. Pontegos-Santander was the airfield where 6-12 met its ultimate fate.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

12 + 13) Bf 109B 6-13 flown by Unteroffizier Harbach with Versuchsjagdgruppe 88 and later by Feldwebel Heinz Braunschweiger with 2./JG 88.

[IMG][/IMG]

14) Poor picture of 6-14 (extract from the picture of 6-10 flying in formation with this aircraft, see under 6-10).

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

15 – 23) Probably one of the most extensively photographed Spanish Bf 109Bs was 6-15. That was not due to the fact that it was piloted by one of the top aces or because it had a very distinctive service record. No, at the end of November 1937 it was landed by Otto Polenz on republican territory at Bujaraloz. Of course this fact was highly exploited by the Republican Propaganda machine. After being examined by the Republicans and the French, this aircraft was shipped to Russia . Here the aircraft was completely determined and every component was photographed.
Modellers attention! A lot of pictures with some very interesting details of this aircraft can be found on this website: <a href="http://www.moskittech.ru/eng/myze/Bf-109B-1/Bf-109B-1.htm</a" target="_new">http://www.moskittech.ru/eng/myze/Bf-109B-1/Bf-109B-1.htm</a>;
Furthermore. Vladimir Nikoforov has sent me even more of these pictures, published in a book written by M. Maslov. If I find the time, I will make a modellers section including some of these pictures.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

24 – 28) A profile and 4 pictures of 6-16 as part of 2./JG 88.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

29 – 31) 6-17 from grounded till airborne.

[IMG][/IMG]

32) 6-19 was the first Bf 109B that was delivered with a variable pitch 2-bladed VDM-Hamilton propeller straight from Germany. Although not an official German type identification, this aircraft was identified in Spain as a Bf 109B-2 and early Bf 109Bs with fixed wooden airscrews as Bf 109B-1’s until the moment these were upgraded to B-2 configuration.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

33 – 36) Lieutenant Fritz Awe of 1/JG88 met his fate in 6-20 when his aircraft was cut to pieces by the airscrew of his wingman during a transition flight to Lanaja on the 4th of April 1938.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

37 + 38) 6-21 was the third “B-2”, delivered in September 1937, seen here after a landing gear breakdown at Vitoria.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

39 + 40) 6-24 undergoing gun adjustment trials at Virgin del Camino airport (Léon).

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

41 – 44) some shots of 6-26 en 6-27, the belly landing of 6-27 took place at Alar del Rey airfield.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

45 – 47) This aircraft seems to be flown by Gotthard Handrick before he got the 6-56. The collapsing of the undercarriage happened to 6-29 at Avila during the Battle of Brunette.

So far parte 2: And you know, every addition, correction or whatever is highly appreciated.

Hopefully you enjoy this part, cheers, Peter
