Recently I just purchased two rods from cabelas 9'6" 7wt SLi and 8wt 9' XST rods. Both rods are excellant rods for fishing shad, salmon, striped bass & saltwater perch using shooting heads. The price is reasonal and 25 years life time warrently. And if you don't like the rod, you can exchange it anytime. I had tested these two rods with windy condition and cast very well. I am not sales person from cabelas, I do owned a lot sage rods like xp and xi2 rods.

Tried several and don't like them.
all rods are from china or korea; copycats of the us made quality rods.
keep your dollars in the us and buy the better quality rods made here!

I do not have experience with Cabela's rods, but I can tell you that what Nick said about product quality from China is flat wrong. The rods made there typically offer higher quality than American made rods for the same price. The manufacturing standards are identical and due to the less expensive labor you will likely find bonuses on the rods made in China such as more guides (9 or 10), two stripping guides, nice reel seats, and higher grade cork handles. At least they are bonuses on entry level rods <$150. You will find these features on American made rods in the $300 and up price range.

You might want to check out Pro Bass Shop's White River series which are made in China.

I have Clear Creek 1 wt, Ltech 9foot 5 wt and LST 9foot 6wt among others. I have cast friends Sage SLT's , XP's and LL's and Scotts SES and SAS and I have owned a Winston B2X and Powell. I would only put the Powell Legacy Light 4 wt in the same class as Cabela's fly rods.

Cabela's have some great fly rods built for them. In fact the FT and FT+ are a couple of discontinued rods that if you can find are terrific as well.

My husband is an excellent fly fisherman and I want to buy him the best fly rod..what do you suggest as i am clueless! thanks so much
