stowaway 7

Got a stowaway 7 5wt back in Nov for backpacking and to just keep in the truck at all times. Love the action of this rod. It is super light in your hands and casts beautifully. So what's the hitch you ask? Durability in one word. Since Nov I have returned the rod twice and now the third one has broken as well. The first was while reeling in a fish, the second was while casting, and the third time the fly got snagged on a backcast and when I went forward the middle section gave out. Just not worth it without some kind of warranty beyond the 90 day satisfaction guarantee IMHO.

I also have a stowaway rod. For what its meant to be (a nifty little package that fits in your backpack), I suppose its okay. I have a 5 wt model. Overall I am not super impressed by the rod. It has a nice finish, but it seems to lack the backbone I like. I like a fast action rod, I'd call this one a moderate action. It works just fine in small rivers and creeks unless there is any wind. When I bought it, I noticed the two pieces that form the very tip of the rod were slightly out of alignment with the rest of the rod. This was agrivating, but I never returned it because I just wanted to fish. The other problem I find is in the ferrules. Sometimes the ferrules come apart when you don't mean them to. The rod is handy. It would be nice to take with you if you were going to hike or bike to some back country streams.
