Clicking, Grinding noise in PS2. Should I buy a new laser gear?

This is my second ps2 because of this problem, and I am considering buying a new laser gear so that it moves with the worm gear better. I'm considering a metal one, because I think it would resist wear better. Is this true?

A new laser wont correct that problem. Take out your laser, and bend down the plastic peice, the peice that sits on the worm gear. Bend it down slightly so that the teeth will grip the gear better. Dont bend down too much or it will be harder for the eye to move. Lub the gear with a tiny amount of WD-40. That should correct your problem.
