I've got a SCPH-50001(400c) that isn't even a year old, and gets minimal use, averaged less than 10hrs a week since new. It will play CDs but NO DVD's or games(only have silver to test).
I've searched the sight and read all of the posts and the links. I've cleaned the lens and adjusted both cogs through their full range of motion. I'm now about ready to start in on adjusting the pots. All of these fixes are designed for a worn or weak laser, could mine already be this weak to where it isn't picking anything up? Or am I just looking at a new laser altogether or possibly some other problem(doubtful).

Alot of people make the mistake of cleaning their laser with alcohol and a q-tip then fail to realize that lens clouds over.. Make sure you blow alot of air on the lens after the alcohol and make sure the top lens is clear.
Do this after you have reset all of the changes you made to the cogs and azimuth screw.

obxnc, thanks for the suggestion, though I tried it and it still doesn't work. There is zero problem playing CD's, it just wont play any DVD's or games at all. I adjusted the DVD pot down a couple hundred ohms but still nothing. New laser?
thanks
