Need diagnosis of ps2

Hi all,
Sorry if this issue has already been addressed.
After playing a newly bought game for a very short time, I needed to reload. There was a high pitched fast chirp noise. The game tried to load continuously. Reset didn't help. I tried multiple times with multiple dvds. Sometimes, the machine tries to load forever, other times, there was the disc read error.
I cleaned the laser lens. . . no help.
I checked the laser. . . still works.
What can be causing this problem (i.e. drive motor, gear. . .)?
I've had my ps2 for about 2 years now. I've never had any problems with it until this occured.
Can anyone please offer some suggestions? Anything at all.
Thanks.

It' also not the plastic teech trying to grab onto the gold cylinder.
I don't have any idea what's wrong with this thing.
Once I put the dvd in, it's like it doesn't exist. The machine either can't read it or won't read it.
