PS2 Controller broken

with any of my games for ps2, the controller's buttons dont work. The joysticks work so i can go up and down menus, and i can push start to advance one menu, but the whole time, the directional pad and the other shape buttons as well as R and L buttons dont work. how do i fix this? thanks

Do you get the same results with ALL controllers that you use? if so you could very well need a controller port.

I'm having the same problem, and it's definately the controller, because I have a PS2 to PC adapter which lets me plug my controller in my PC, and in the calibration screen all the directional buttons, the 4 main buttons and the L1-R1-L2-R2 don't work. The only buttons that work are the 2 joysticks, Start and Select, and the Analog button (red light). I opened it up and can't see anything wrong with the soldering, or any burn marks.

My other controller works fine.
