while trying to fix my PS2 for a disc read error, I took the lid off the PS2 too fast and the ribbon from the lid disconnected. I was wondering how you would reconnect the ribbon and where does it connect to?

I have supplied an image but the quality isn;t that great ( yeah I know the camera sucks but for it being kicked around and dropped daily in the shop for its 4 years it still does its job)

Note your PS2 layout may differ as in the colored plugs you see on this one yours may not have them but the ribbon cable goes to the same spot

if you look at the side of the ROM assembly you will see a groove where the ribbon cable goes into if you lift the board from the case you will see an ivory/brown ribbon cable plug, carefully open the retention clip on the plug slide the ribbon back in (with the contact edge facing the mainboard and close the retention bracket

below you will see a full view of the motherboard without the parts connected to it to get a better view, this is the bottom of the mainboard and the front of the board is to the right as you can see by the expansion plug is on the left

This board may not look like yours its only used as a refference to the location of the power/eject ribbon location (this is a version 7)
