Someone please respond. My PS2 is making clicking noises and will not read disks past the Playstation 2 screen. I have cleaned the laser lens, lubricated the metal guide rails, cleaned and lubed the worm gear and last night I took about the laser and scrapped the crap off the laser guide arm. I thought the problem was that it wasn't gripping the worm gear. It seems to be gripping now, but the system still won't read anything. Is there anyway to tell if the laser arm and worm gear are working correctly? If a disk is in, I cant see if the laser is moving and if I turn it on w/ no disk and the tray open the worm gear only turns for a second. What could the problem be? Should I try turning the white cogs that raise the laser? Please Help!
you can try turning teh white cog.. but do this with dim lighting inser a ps2 disk into the drive while its open and see if you can see the laser througfh teh disk, a white silkscreened disk is betst for this....
your laser may need to be replaced
you can try turning the cog...
as you mentioned you have opened the ps2...; open it again mark with a perminant marker where both the hight motor gear and white gear meet then turn the white gear 2 cogs counterclockwise... if it still doesn;t read disks then your laser will most likely need to be replaced
