ok please tell me which scre location you screwed the long screw into

here is an image of the bottom of a PS2 please tell em which number you screwed the long screw into

most likly you have damaged a trace on the motherboard, or cracked the board which severs any traces

screw location

October 25 2005, 1:42 PM

it was either 2 or 6. one of those places. My ps2 only has 8 screws. I believe i have a version 4 ps2 type 2. Becuz i was looking for parts for my ps2 like power supply since my ps2 isnt getting power which nothing on power supply looked wrong. But im pretty sure it is motherboard like u said.

Re: screw location

October 25 2005, 3:09 PM

Ahhhh ok

Screw hole 2 would not of damaged the PS2 in any

Screw hole 6 is probably the culprit

ok the vacinity of Screwhole 6 there is the ribbon cable for the standby eject buttons
you have most likly peirced it or broken a trace if you have a multimeter handy get it and set it on ohmes or diode check (the beep mode when you touch the probes together)

Screwhole 2 & 6 attach to teh edge of the drive expansion slot and the screw shouldn;t of went any further in if so you may also have bent the Metal EMF Plate

hrmm lemme open up a few dead PS@'s and jam the long screw into each and see what happens
** Plays some elevator music **

While testing for results the screws were removed but unit was not opened which I then took the longs screws from 5 and 8 and screwed them into 2 and 6 then opened them up while the screws were still installed
All 3 systems were all burnt dead ( Processor/Controller and liquid spilled on mobos) so please don't yell at me if you thought I was killing them for this

SCPH-30001
Screw #2 No Damage rested on underside of plastic drive door
Screw #6 Damaged the Drive eject motor cable

SCPH-30000
Screw #2 No Damage
Screw #6 No Damage

SCPH-30001-R

Screw #2 No Damage
Screw #6 Niked the power eject cable and severed the drive eject motor ribbon

pretty sure

October 25 2005, 8:20 PM

I looked on back of ps2 and i have the SCPH-30001 and it doesnt have the "R" letter on it so it is prolly the Drive eject motor cable but would that actually cause the system 2 get no power? As it is getting no power at all.Eject or reset doesnt come on. is it possible that the ac adapter/power cords gave out? I have hear the power cords/ac does blow sometimes.I have had this system since they costed $300. A lil later after they came out. And if it isnt 2 hard i want 2 fix it. BUT i already bought a new ps2 slimline which doesnt overheat!. But then again i got a fan on it . just a regular fan u buy. stand up fan. Neways i did buy a 2 year warranty so i just take it in and get a new 1!!! but i still want this old ps2 to work becuz for 1 thing i bought the PS2 HDD for socom 2.And my sister wants a ps2 so if i get it 2 work i will prolly give it 2 her.

ribbon cable

October 25 2005, 11:29 PM

can a ribbon cable (the silver strip that connects 2 reset/eject) just break even though it has no tears or rips?

Re: ribbon cable

October 26 2005, 12:47 AM

yes it can actually if bent to much one way or another the metal strip will break but the paper/plastic casing is plyable

if you have a multimeter test the cable who knows it just may be that :)

I can supply a pic but unfortunatly the system I use to take pics with is a ALOT earlier model and has the 7 wire cable for the standby/reset...

I did take pics of customer systems before lets see if any of them have a legible image of it
:(
unfortunatly the drives I have pictures of bot differ then yours one is a Version 1 and the drive tray motor is built into the drive controller and 2 very wide ribbon cables connect to the motherboard, and the other is a version 3 which the tray motor is run from 2 wires to a plug :(

I will see tomorrow if I can dig around my parts PS2's for a correct drive to take an image of the 3 units I used to test were thrown back up and I didn;t notice where they were put :(

if all else failes I will just take apart my office PS2 and take pics of it for you :)

Re: ribbon ok

October 26 2005, 10:16 PM

actually you have to remove the ribbon from the buttons and the mainboard to test just take the probes and touch each end you should see the multimeter show 0 or it will beep to tell you its good then go onto the next line on and on

I beleive theres either 5 or 7 seperate lines

Multimeters are cheap these days I picked oen up from Canadaian Tire to keep in my mobile box for $9.99 on sale and its a 65 function :)

Re: ribbon 0?

October 27 2005, 1:23 PM

I used it as an example

if a ribbon cable shows excessive resistance then it most likely defective

heres a demo of what it would do when contacted to eachother, note I taped one probe on because I need one hand free to take the picture
my multimeter on the 200Ω setting showed a 00.2Ω resistance which is no resistance at all
http://ps2repair.teamk3.com/ps2image/mmtest.jpg

on the resistance setting 1. Ω means the multimeter is ready
on the Diode check 1. Ω means ready also

I use 0 as a dead short because some multimeters show that when using the diode check..
I find it easier using that setting because I don;t have to look at the multimeter, if its good it will beep

checked with beep

October 27 2005, 8:06 PM

i did check the ribbon cable going from bottom of ps2 to eject and reset buttons. My dad set the settings i just touched the 7 lil silver things ON the ribbon cable. i guess u could call teeth. the red and black cables on each side.(ribbon was taken out of ps2). Neways the ribbon is good cuz i heard the beep. Could there be anything else wrong with my ps2 that it wont power on???AM i suppose 2 touch every little teeth? cuz there are 7

Re: checked with beep

October 27 2005, 8:49 PM

Hrmmm yes you would have to check each one individually

you "MAY" have blown a fuse while you have it use that beep function again and look at the motherboard

there up to 15 small mini fuses on the motherboard there usually 3x2mm and 1x1 mm all marked with Gold silkscreen on the motherboard

teach fuse shoes either a 50, 30, 10 these are all mini fuses each have 2 pegs on each side toch each side and listen for a beep

here is a image of a mobo and the fuses the quality is nto all that great cuz my dig cam sucks
http://ps2repair.teamk3.com/ps2image/fuse2.jpg

there are up to 15 of these fuses

Plus i think alot of the stuff is saudered on there so i will have to take it off and sauder back on. I dont know. but thanx neways man. If i do continue 2 work on it. and i fix it will write back on here or pos2 a new thingy. But i do have 1 question. Does ur ps2 mess up if u leave it on standby(red) on a permanent basis untill u want 2 play it? becuz i have a new slimline and i hate pulling plug everytime i turn it off. like power down to red the pull plug on it.
