I am trying to fix a disk read error on a ps2 approx 2 years old. I have read online how to adjust the distance between the laser and the disk. However my system does not have the large gear in the back center that you are supposed to turn. I do have two small ones on each side. Is this just a different configuration? Can someone please help me ??

my ps2 will play audio cd's but nothing else. Could the lens be bad ??

I have a unit that has the EXACT same problems I swapped out the Lens with a brand new one and it all worked....

the DVD reader portion of the lens is bad... the lens self adjusts to both formats DVD and NON DVD... its teh DVD portion that usually Flies south first due to the excessive usage from playing PS2 games that are DVD format which is like 90% of all teh new games out there

I have tried re-aligning the pots, re-adjusting the white height adjustment gear and even cleaning the lens it was a 3 hour fix then that was it no more dvd's LOL

Best bet invest in a new laser assembly for your unit thats what I did

look up thats actally one of the cheaper ones I have seen

its almost impossible to get a PS2 laser for under $30 unless they either fell off a truck or know a friend of a friend of a friend who works for sony
