and this may get touchy for some(remember to take the emotion factor out)...
What is wrong with a business who has 650 breedable (animals-insert dogs, cats, cattle, sheep) that are housed and maintained according to the standard and Animal welfare act that is already established? 450? 200? 50? ok...10? Feel better? Isn't it all about following the current rules and raising them to the standard anyway no matter how small or large the business is? Where are the people who are supposed to be inspecting and controlling the abusers now? Undermanned, under paid and overly taxed. Someone needs to focus on the programs already in place and correct the current issues. We do not need to penalize everyone because of the actions of a few.
There are plenty of businesses that do not abuse animals and should not be limited. We may not like the fact that many animals are "mass produced" but that does not define how they are kept. There are many breeders, show breeders outside the USA that have HUGE fancy kennels that mass produce puppies. Their facilities are clean, the dogs appear to be well taken care of and no one is limiting them nor are they ostricized by our community. Take that same set up and plant it square in California and you will have the hills burning and helicopters flying! People just have a hard time swallowing something like this. Some people typically assign a greater value and emotion to an animal (and they have the right to feel whatever they wish) and let that guide their response. No one likes to admit they make money selling their product(puppy, kitten, lamb, piglet). A business does try to make a profit and pay for itself. It doesn't matter how large or small the business is, it has to maintain somehow. It is just not "politically correct" to say otherwise.
Again we are pushing ourselves into a corner where no one will be able to breed and the only puppy you will be able to buy is the one the goverment selects for you under their new bail out plan. Oh yeah and did I tell you, you don't have to keep paying payments on your puppy either, see we have this new program..(blah blah blah).
LOL...
