We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

Homeschooling help

Hi! I have been kinda of the quiet reader to the group only post a couple times. Cris got me started on this group and I always find a common thread here to our own life with our 10 yr old daughter with DS. I recently have been very unhappy with our school and am trying to get my ducks in a row to homeschool our daughter. I am waiting one more year due to the need to work from home one more year for financial reasons in this crazy gas and economic time. Katie is non verbal and only communicates at a 18 mth to 30 mth range but does use a DYNAVOK(talking computer) to communicate. I think I have seen some Pre reading skills and maybe even reading skills. Has anybody else homeschooled with these dynamics......What programs worked for your child. I am very interested in getting everything ready and maybe started a trail for the summer before to test the waters.
Thanks Katie's Mom
julie

Homeschooling

June 13 2008, 11:08 AM

I started homeschooling this year do to my sons health, I know about the needing to work thing, but any way. Have you tried the love and learning kit, it is great, my son is 7 and loves this, he is picking up on words, he signs them also. I don't know if this will help or not, but it is an idea.
