Bandaging for support

As you maybe aware, Benji stood on a nail nearly 7wks ago and has had his leg bandaged for support since.

Now that the hospital plate has been removed and he no longer has a wedge under his heel I want to try and "do away" with the banadge over a period of time.

I'm starting just to bandage it overnight and see how that works. I did it the other day and it was fine. Then I sahll do every other night and see what the leg does.

Has anyone had any experiences they could share? I know each horse/pony is an individual, so it won't necessarily be the same for Benji but just interested to hear what happened with yours.

Is he stable 24/7 still or getting turnout?

I would certainly bandage during turnout and off during rest.. so same as it would be for a human if that makes sense?
Then gradually starts maybe doing a little exercise without it off and see how he holds up...?

Could you vet not advise you as they will know the injury well....

I will do Jodie, but he only had the plate off on Friday. He's still on box rest sad.gif. The horn has to be given chance to harden and the potential damage to tendon to repair.

Does the vet have to see him again? If so then I'd be inclined to leave the support bandages on until then (well, not literally!)

Nope. Phone updates, but I'll give him a bell.
