lol Claire! don't you guys down here in the NF 'do' straw?
My mum is going up to see some friends in Surrey next week, she's going to try and stop and get some from Rokers. she's got a mission/challenge set for her - how many bags/bales of this stuff can she get in a Mercedes C-class?!! I'm going for 3; 2 in the boot, 1 on the back seats - mind you if she straps one into the fr pax seat she might get 4 in lol!
This is such a coincidence post! If that's even a word... anyway, I bought some Dixon Dustless for the first time yesterday from Rokers! Had never heard of it before but saw it in there and thought I'd try it. Put it down yesterday and I love it already! So easy to muck out and one bag really made a difference to the depth. Just keeping my fingers crossed my mare doesn't decide it's good enough to eat!

Its supposed to be unpalatable to horses. Mine didnt eat it then again he is a fussy eater anyway!
Let us know what you think, would be interested to know
I'm due a delivery this week, I buy a pallet of 30 at a time, if you like I will ask James (the son, lovely lad too) if they can get it into anywhere else down your way, suggestions please?
Sometimes greedy piggies like my Bobs will eat it but it would be pretty unpalatable and in the end of the day it is only straw so won't hurt them, they do however produce a lavender fragranced one to deter them eating it as well. Just out interest, what does it cost you?
Thanks Chele, i guess Norris' in Beaulieu would be the obvious choice (for me, anyway!) or Scats, Lymington..
I paid £4.95 bag/bale of it from Rokers, whats it cost you?
I will speak to James when he delivers here, they may be able to get another stockist, I suppose it would depend on demand but as shavings are going to be in short supply due to lack of wood requirements by the non exisitant building trade at the mo, it may be a possiblity. Your price sounds right from a stockist.
I spoke to the man I get megazorb from today (John Green) and he might make some enquiries about stocking it, he sounded quite interested in it. He's from around here (not far from Beaulieu Road) I think I would prefer him to stock it than Norris' actually!
Anyway, it did cross my mind that the last 2 summers have yielded a particularly poor wheat/straw crop, so how does that affect him (the manufacturer)? Mind you if the crop is poor, then I dont suppose it really matters what quality it is particularly, by the time its been dust-extracted, treated and chopped up; but still made me wonder, if shavings are in short supply, surely the straw situation cant be any better?
Is there a straw shortage generally or is it just in your area? I'm still paying the same price as last year for straw (£2.50) and it's good quality too.
I've caught both my mare and foal eating it! Bummer. I did ask when I bought it whether they had heard of many horses eating it and they did say they had had a few.
