Would you call the vet?

Darcy has somehow managed to cut his lip/nostril this evening, its not gushing blood as such but its about 1 inch long and quite deep (ie not a surface scratch).
I've bathed it with diluted hibiscrub in (previously) boiled water and dried it off (with cotton wool), but (dermoline) ointment wont stick to it, so I powder puffed wound powder into/on it. He's having his tea at the moment, his appetite doesnt seem affected, but I'm just a bit concerned as to whether i've done what I should or whether it might need stitching? what would you do?

I probably wouldnt call the vet for this if the bleeding has stopped but would be prepared to call them tomorrow if it doesnt look like its going to close up on its own.

No Nicky, it sounds as though you have done just the right things.I would use udder cream tomorrow but if not stick to wound powder.Hope Irish Allan is not around but you cannot call the vet for everything or you will be bankrupt.

My only concern with location (and well any cut) is that tetanus cover is up to date... if not then i'd call the vet for that.

Kyte came with a injury to him lip that also stopped him eating... it bled for quite a while. I cleaned it twice a day and put sudocrem on it, for a few days it would start bleeding again when being cleaned but vet said not much they could do and as long as bright and no sign of infection just keep with cleaning it and putting cream on...
However... he did have a quick visit to vets as had no tetanus cover.
