My pony after along course of antibiotics still has a discharge out of her nose. It has been going on for a couple of months and my vet now wants to scope.
Has anybody had any experinces with scoping ? all info very welcome
Hi, Molly was recently scoped. She was taken in to her stable and sedated. The scope was put up one of her nostrils and carefully pushed in until the vet could see what she wanted to look at. After establishing that both bronchi were in the same condition, a tube was put up her other nostril and samples of mucas were extracted out. Apart from a couple of shakes of the head she didn't seem in too much discomfort and spent most of the time with her head resting on my shoulder.
Unfortunately for me, there was a delay and her cultures weren't grown straight away as they should have been. The results weren't 100% conclusive.
Molly seemed to improve but has just started coughing again so the Vet will be out this week.
After a prolonged cough my pony was scoped a few years ago. He didn't seem to register anything at all, and was not in any discomfort after. Mucus samples were taken, and they decided the cough had come from some dodgy dusty hay. He was very susceptible to anything dusty after this, so would recommend having it done sooner rather than later if you are worried!

Thanks everyone .
My pony hasnt got a cough just constant blood and massive green snots. She has had a course of Antibiotics and is now on anti inflams . At the weekend she couldnt breath and it she sounded awful. I called the vet out thinking that i would have to have her PTS, but he wanted do do more research before making that decision. She is perky in herself ( because she is an amazing pony ) but the vet thinks she has an underlying problem . Will find out tomorrow, hopefully one way or another.
Dreading tomorrow but looking forward to hopefully having some answers
We're thinking of you today. Hope all turns out ok. Please don't forget to let us know how things went.

She has a tumour.
Im gutted, but not that surprised. Ihave had this feeling for a while i sort of knew really. Talked it through with my vet before and have decided to wait for a lovely sunny day , take her for a walk down the beach have a splash around in the sea and have her PTS on the way home.
So sorry to hear that, must be devestating At least you were caring enough to investigate and save her unneccessary suffering, and now also care enough to ensure she doesn't go on to suffer. Very sad....
Oh I am so very sorry to hear your news. I was hoping that it would be good news for you. When I had my mare Bess PTS it was a lovely spring day. I plaited her tail and weaved carnations for 'I'll never forget you' and red roses (the small ones) for 'I love you' into her tail. She was led to the paddock and given lots of fuss and polos which she loved. When she was PTS she just lay amongst the buttercups and daisies and looked like she was sleeping in the warmth of the sun.
It sounds as though you intend to give your pony a lovely last day too.
I send a big hug to you both.
I've just seen this and am so sorry to hear your sad news. I had my boy scoped last year; they luckily didn't find anything nasty, and again, the nose bleeds and snotty nose were put down to just a bit of an infection from having had some dusty hay.
Very sad to have to say goodbye so prematurely, but well done for putting her comfort first. Its so hard sometimes, but hopefully you can still treasure the memories of your happy times together.
Ive never had an animal PTS before. When i lived at home that was my Fathers job !
I remember years ago someone saying that if "An animal it good enough to be with you in life, you can at least be with it in death"
But nothing prepared me for todays heartbreak ....i couldnt breath it was if someone had sucked the air from my lungs. Then you have to get on with it and start thinking about how your going to deal with your other horse who has just lost his field friend. life goes on and all that .....
