My horse spooked two days ago, twisted and nearly fell over whilst being ridden. I rode him the day after and noticed a slight clicking noise coming from the back end, however he was sound and didn't appear to be uncomfortable. He was riddenagain lightly today and the clicking is still present. When asked to trot he wasn't keen but he's a lazy one sometimes so i couldn't tell if he couldn't be bothered or he was in pain. He doesn't appear lame. I can't decide whether i need the vet or a physio or someone to check him over. Or maybe if i should give him some painkiller (if vet recommends) and see if he is better after that? Can anyone offer their advice. Ta
Have him stood up square then take a look from behind to see if his hips are level. Watch him walk away and back past you to see if he overtracks as he normally would. Do the same in trot and watch to see if he tracks up. Run your fingers along the muscle on each side of his spine to see if it has any tightness in it: it should sort of spring back. Any lumpiness, tightness or you are just unsure, get the vet to have a look.
