Time to replace the rubber mat on my horsebox ramp. Need something durable but not too heavy. Any suggestions? Esp. if you know of a local supplier. Have checked the services directory and nothing there.

New Forest Horseboxes for the proper stuff locally (think they're still an advertiser on here - sorry Steve if they are not!) - they aren't cheap, but NFHB are fair and honest. Or if you want to shop for a bargain, try ebay - loads of advertisres on there.

Some of the really good ramp rubber mats seem awfully heavy. Has anyone tried a nonslip paint like Protectakote on their ramp?

Hi, I recently purchased some lightweight coconut matting from ebay for the ramp in my van.

In fact, I did buy some Protectakote. Did the first third of the ramp to test it out and am happy enough with it so will do the remainder.

It is v. non-slip, and lightweight compared to rubber mats. Quite hardwearing and even if a bit does get dug out, it is easy to patch repaint, whereas with a mat you would have to replace the entire piece. I went for the UVR (ultra-violet resistant) version, though I am not sure it is necessary.

Ebay seems to be the cheapest place, I needed 4 litres to do the lorry ramp. Though the vendor I used (who was selling it at 15.00 per litre incl postage) doesn't seem to have a listing currently.
