Shetland with patchy coat

Our little shetland that we have just bought still has some of her winter coat in patches! We are going to bath her tomorrow and have been grooming her everyday for the last 10 days but am looking for ideas to speed up her coat loss.

(I understand that this is a 'normal' thing for Shetlands and is not a condition of cushings in the case of our mare.)

Does anyone have any recommendations please - eg shedding comb or other ideas to help!

Many thanks.

Try a grooming block and shedding comb, but, it might be that your shetland is the sort that doesn't lose their coat until later in the year, then get their new winter coat about 2 weeks after!! lolol wink.gif I have got a couple of those sorts back here, but, they look great in about August.

Miniatures

I still have one miniature horse that will not let go of his winter coat. He lloks really moth eaten, but is well and happy. His mother was exactly the same, so I think that in some cases it must be genetic!

If you are really desperate to get rid of the coat buy Mira-coat, which is used on show dogs, they do a horse one. I only bought the dog one many years ago for a forester I had which lived out and no one believed he did when I took him to a show, he looked fanastic.

Echo the shedding blades.. they normally in constant use here! I still have a few who are hanging onto bits of there coats but most are shedded out.. and some we cheated with as due to there work with kids.. i clipped them! lol
