Hello, has anyone ever had an instructor make them feel really bad about themselves and reduce themto tears after a lesson? I had that horribleexierence today, went for my first lesson in years today on gorgeous new loan horse that i've had for 7 weeks. had a lovely lesson, horse worked really well, learnt how to ride him so he feels like he's floating and although a little tired (me not horse) felt really good untill instructor said i was too big for him and that if i was considering buying him then i shouldnt, i should go for something bigger. she said that as he got older (he' only 10) he would struggle to carry me.
Now, horse s 15.2hh TB im 5ft7 and 10st is she right?
She really hurt my felings and i really love this horse.
What a load of rubbish ..... I am sick of people making other riders feel like s**t!
It is enough to give someone a real complex and could lead to all sorts of other issues.
I know horses have differing bone densiny etc etc ..... but from what you have said it sounds absolutely outrageuos.
Someone really hurt my feelings when I went to a tack sale this weekend as I am after a 17" wide saddle for my chunky forester (I currenty ride in a 16 1/2" which is a bit too small for me. This women who was selling a 17 1/2" saddle said (to cut a long story short) ..... that 'would i really fit into a 17" '.... while looking at me like a piece of dirt ..... etc etc ..... without going into too much detail!
Anyhoo ..... there are some really strange people out there and dont be bullied by them ...... Good Luck xxxx
and you paid for that lesson and insult? unfortunatly there are an awful lot of people in the horsey world that are right bitches and talk out of their ar**. get rid of her.
i knew of an isnturctor that made alot of young girls cry having a lesson she is just a bully and got a kick out of making kids cry but the mothers still paid for a lesson each week!
Weight and height not a problem - my other half rides a forester and he is 5'11 and 11.5 stone.
Instructor was very unproffesional and unkind but was she trying to tell you that the horse was not right for you in some very bizarre way.
Clearly I don't know the scenario at all but we all fall in love with our horses and can see no wrong but I wonder if he/she could see something that you can't. Just because some one has upset you don't be stubborn ( voice of experience speaking!!) make sure with a thorough vetting that there are no problems.
If there aren't then he/she is a miserable old git and you are happy with the right horse.....
Best of luck.
Thats disgraceful..............I guess she would also think that NF ponies are only for children to ride!!!!!
I dont suppose the yard the instructor is at is also a dealers yard is it, perhaps one that sells large horses?!!!
I get sick of people saying that my daughter who weighs about 9 1/2 stone and is 5ft 5 1/2 is too big for her 14.2 forester, but when she rides my 15.2 welsh D, is told she could do with something bigger still!!! I guess if she had a 16.2, she'd be told she was over horsed!!!!
I would suggest you find yourself a different instructor, one that is not a height snob!
it wasnt a dealers yard no it was at pinkmead of all places! i just cant believe she said it after the lesson was over, surely if she really thought that was the case then she should have said before she took my money!
I old have understood it if i turned up ready to ride my 12.2!
I am 5ft 2, weigh between 9 and 10stone and have a 13.3hh Connemara pony... I might feel too big and I might look it but he'd certainly tell me he wasn't happy with me riding him - I also have a 15hh Sec D, a 14hh Arab X and a 14.2hh Sec D that is ridden by my mum and she weighs more than 10stone (she'd kill me if I said her true weight), the 14.2hh is 19years old and more than capable of carrying mums weight.........
Your instrcutor is talking c**p - jealousy??????????????????
(edited for the profanity)
**TEVLEV** - the backwards pony
**RUFUS** -the Dude and
**SAFFILIA** - the Lady
**MONSTER** - as sweet as Honey!!!

Hey lisa! Having ridden your gorgeous new horsey, I can say that no way are you too big for him, or too heavy, ignore whatever they said and keep going with him, you and him get on really really well and it's great to see you riding again!
i have no intentions of naming names steve. thanks everyone for your support, the instructor really knocked my confidence in myself and i think i just needed reassurance and you guys were great so many thanks to all for your kind words x
I just hope from all the great supportive responces you feel much better!!
Completely different I know, but my Mum used to really enjoy her painting, and was'nt half bad. We went on a painting weekend, and had a critique at the end, the teacher was so ignorant and up his own a**e, he really critacised my mums picture, really deogatory remarks, and she will not paint any more, no matter how much I try to encourage her to. Its sooo annoying. I'm so cross he could make her feel this way.
Just PLEASE dont let this instructor knock your enjoyment of your horse and riding. Sounds like people who know you and your horse see there is no problem, so enjoy riding, just get a lovely new instructor!! xx
I teach a 13 year old lad on a 11.2hh welshie. He's a little tall, but not heavy. He and his sister keep their ponies for fun, and they are ride and dirves. I would never put anyone down for riding their choice of pony/horse. I had it done to me for being an adult riding a 13.2hh forester. It hurts!!!!
where are you, I know a really lovely instructor, who fills you with confidence, She will obviously tell you if something is wrong, however, height, weight and general appearance would never come in to it. How rude are some people, FGS don't give up or lose confidence over some idiot, if you are happy and comfortable with your horse, that is all that matters. Enjoy!!
Utter rubbish, ditch the instructor and keep the horse definatly.
I would say your height and weight would be fine for anything 14hh and over, in my opinion. My boy is a NF to make between 14hh - 14.2 and i am 5foot 7 and 11 stone. I will be competing and riding him, heaven help any one who suggests i'm too big!
