TOADMAN’S TANK PICTURES

Toadman's M4A2(76)HVSS & M4A3(76)HVSS Photo Detail CD. Compact Disk containing 404 color photographs, introduction and bibliography. Price: $7.99 USD, plus $2.15 USD each shipping (First Class in USA, Air Mail to all other points). Three or more CDs per order are shipped free.

The M4 medium tank is a staple of modelers of US and allied AFVs; quality photographic references are always sought after commodities. The Toadman addressed this need very early in his photo-reference series based upon museum vehicles. This CD details the M4A2 and A3 “large hatch” hulls mounting a 76mm gun in the T23 turret, and wearing HVSS suspension.

The CD is set up as follows:

• Main Table of Contents (TOC).
• Introduction and Acknowledgements (with Source list)
• M4A3(76)HVSS Main TOC
• M4A3 turret exterior TOC
• M4A3 hull exterior TOC
• M4A3 suspension TOC
• M4A3 turret interior TOC
• M4A3 hull interior TOC
• M4A2(76)HVSS Main TOC
• M4A2 turret exterior TOC
• M4A3 hull exterior TOC
• M4A3 hull interior TOC

Since there is some overlap in features, the photographer did not include photos of both turret interiors, nor did he include photos of both tanks’ suspension systems. However, he has paid great attention not only to the small details on nearly every exterior fitting, but he has taken the trouble to cross-reference certain items on each tank that are similar, but not identical. This shows especially in the turrets, the engine decks and the hull rear ends. He has a “modeler’s eye” and he uses it extremely well, all for the benefit of those who purchase this product.

Although these are museum restorations, it would appear that the vehicles were worked on by people who cared a very great deal about the end product. So, it would appear that the right things are in the right places and that there are no untoward “additions”. This is good news since modelers can use these vehicles as a visual reference with confidence. The markings however, should not be used as a reference source; modeler’s beware.

This CD is a well-presented, nicely-photographed and very economical reference product. Sherman guys should “get some”!
