BISON DECALS

BD-72021, British Sherman Firefly. 1/72nd-scale water-slide decals for 10 complete models, with generics and instructions.

With the advent of the more recent 1/72nd DML Sherman kits, modelers in that scale now have a fairly sound basis for an accurate and well-detailed replica. In particular, the British variant with the 17-Pdr. gun is a popular modeling subject, so the markings included in this recent Bison sheet should be quite welcome. The following tanks are represented:

Mk VC, 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards, 8th Armoured Brigade. France 1944.
Mk VC, Staffordshire Yeomanry, 27th Armoured Brigade. Operation Goodwood, Normandy, 1944.
Mk VC, 13th/18th Hussars, 27th Armoured Brigade. Normandy, D-Day 1944.
Mk VC, East Riding Yeomanry, 27th Armoured Brigade. Normandy, D-Day 1944.
Mk VC, 144th Regiment Royal Armoured Corps, 33rd Armoured Brigade. France, 1944.
Mk VC, 3rd County of London Yeomanry, 4th Armoured Brigade. Normandy, 1944.
Mk VC, 4th County of London Yeomanry, 7th Armoured Division. Villers-Bocage, France, 13 June 1944.
Mk IC, 1st RTR, 22nd Armoured Brigade. Ahaus Germany, March 1945.
Mk IC, East Riding Yeomanry, 27th Armoured Brigade. Holland, 1944.
Mk IC, Coldstream Guards, Guards Armoured Division. Bremen, Germany, April 1945.

In the fashion of the time, the tanks wear a variety of markings, to include tactical numbers, squadron signs, divisional insignia, Arm-of-Service signs, WD numbers, bridging circles, shipping stencils and the occasional name. The vehicles are all painted overall in the standard Olive Drab or its British equivalent; a couple have disruptive camouflage patterns. For full-color images of the vehicles covered, see here:http://www.angelfire.com/pro/bison/72021.html

The designs are printed in Russia by Begemot. Their quality is excellent. Edges are crisp, colors are well-saturated, and registration is extremely good. Carrier film is thin, matte and cropped close to the designs edges. The instructions cover one side of three 8 x 11.5-inch sheets of paper and are in monotone. The modeler is given a web address (see above) to down-load and print a color version, but what is supplied is more than adequate to the task. In addition to placement and color notes, small details unique to the individual tank, such as stowage or track types are also noted. In order to help with design placement, a map is given, which cross-references the designs with an alpha-numeric call-out.

This is a well-researched product with a wide variety of markings, for the two main types of Firefly deployed. Add a couple of DML kits and a fine, colorful replica should be the ultimate outcome.

Highly recommended.
