EDUARD

36050, M7 Priest Exterior. 1/35th-scale etched brass detail set, with instructions, for Academy kit.

As one of several sets recently released for the Academy kit, this particular item will help the modeler to add loads of fine details to his replica, while also providing some options.

To begin with, all of the pioneer tools are provided with new tie-down straps as well as the various brackets and other fittings that hold them in place. A rack for the gun tube bore swab staffs is provided and various tie-down loops are given, mostly for where the canvas foul weather cover would be attached. The tow cable also has tie-down straps. There are two different types of grouser boxes provided (early and late) as well as two different types of external stowage lockers. One type has a side-opening segment, while the other opens from the top.

Brush guards are given for the head-lamps, while new faces are provided for the brake lamps. Screens, a deflector plate and some other small details dress up the rear of the vehicle, while there are also some nifty details given for the air-cleaner boxes. Front and rear fender sections are also given, and although the instructions call for the removal of the sand-shield strips from the kit, no replacements are given. This reviewer supposes that they are included in the separate set from Eduard.

Final mention should be made of the engine deck. New screening is given for the main cooling air intake, but when the kit styrene is removed, some work will be needed in the area of some sort of engine compartment representation. Other screens and their spaced covers are given to add a common variation to the engine deck plate configuration. In addition several rails are attached in various places on the deck plate. Other nice details include retaining chains for the fluid filler caps, details for the drivers opened visor, a new horn face and drain plugs for the transmission covers.

Except for the lack of sand shield mounting strips, this set is rather complete for the exterior of the M7 HMC. In most cases, the parts are quite simple to use, and the set has some attractive options.
