36054, Sd.Kfz.251/3 Ausf.D. 1/35th-scale etched brass detail set, with instructions, for AFV Club kit.


As AFV Club continues to work through variants of the ubiquitous Sd.Kfz.251 armored half-track, Eduard has consistently followed suit with tailored etched brass sets for each variation. The most recent kit, the Sd.Kfz.251/3 Ausf.D command vehicle has now come in for treatment.


Two fairly-large etched brass frets are accompanied by printed paper instrument dial faces as well as clear film for vision blocks.








The first place that gets detailed is the drivers cockpit. Both seats get new bases, metal fittings and levers, while stowage items get new brackets and clamps. Replacement non-skid panels are given for some sections of the floor, while new foot pedal assemblies and gear shift lever boxes are also included. The new instrument panel receives the paper dial faces, while the vision blocks, as well as their spares, get new clear film glass inserts. Other items include stowage clamps for the MP40, new ammunition pouches and a completely new radio and rack for under the dash-board.

Working towards the rear, new lids are given for the under-seat stowage lockers, while rifle racks, MG stowage racks and new bench seat backs are included. Small bits and pieces are placed here and there, while the rear doors receive a new latch handle, and the fire extinguisher gets a new stowage bracket and clamps. Additionally, a few small bits are given for the command radio installation.

The remaining parts detail the exterior, to include tool brackets and clamps, handles, lift rings, mud flaps and lamp mounts. A new shield is given for the forward-mounted MG. The final items are piano hinges, lids, locks, chains and lids for the superstructure side stowage lockers.

This is a very complete set, although this reviewer would have liked to see a bit more attention paid to the command radio sets. Nonetheless, especially in the drivers compartment, the modeler who uses this set to its limits will have a real show-stopper in his collection.
