In typical fashion, Tamiya has provided an extremely well-done kit of the diminutive French Renault UE supply carrier. Also in typical Tamiya fashion, many of the smaller details have been simplified or omitted entirely. This is where after-market manufacturers such as Eduard can really help the detail-afflicted modeler. And, for the most part, Eduard has provided a useful and well-thought-out etched brass detail set for that kit.











Some small plates are provided to detail the suspension girder and leaf spring bundles, while what this reviewer believes are cotter pins also dress up that area. The fenders are embellished with various braces and plates; the latter detail the sides of certain areas where the injection molding process will not allow them to be replicated. The tow cable has new mounting hardware, while the head-lamp base also gets a few details. The Renault manufacturers plate is provided for the bow and the trailer; there are four of them, so there will be two spares for other uses.

The tools all get new tie-down straps as well as brackets where appropriate, and a new multi-part stowage bin along with its mounting frame is also included. The heat shield for the exhaust muffler is provided; the small slits must be worked with a pencil point on a rubber pad so they properly protrude from the surface.

Internal frames embellish the trailers load bed, while externally, various brackets, hinge points and grab handles are added. The tow yoke also gets new rib and frame details, while completely new track-guards and their braces are also provided. The final items are the straps for the crewmens rifles.

Altogether, this set will add loads of finesse to what is already a basically sound although slightly simplified styrene offering. Thankfully, thats where after-market manufacturers really benefit the hobby.
