BISON DECALS

BD-72020, British Tanks in Italy. 1/72nd-scale water-slide decals with instructions.
With the release over the past few years of some very well-done 1/72nd-scale Sherman kits from DML, it was only a matter of time before an after-market entity, such as Bison, would release decal sheets for the kits. In this case, the use in Italy of various marks of the Sherman by the British is catered to. Markings for the following 11 tanks are provided:

Sherman Mk III, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (CLY)
Sherman Mk III, 46th RTR, Anzio 1944.
Sherman Mk III, 46th RTR, Anzio 1944.
Sherman Mk III, The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons). October 1943.
Sherman Mk III, 3rd County of London Yeomanry, 1943.
Sherman Mk III, 46th Battalion RTR, 1943.
Sherman Mk III, Royal Scots Greys, 1943.
Sherman Mk IIIDD, 7th Queens Own Hussars, 1945.
Sherman Command Tank, 22nd Battery, 24th Field Regiment, RA. Anzio, January 1944.
Sherman Mk IIB, The Queen's Bays, 2nd Armoured Bde. San Martino, November 1944.
Sherman Mk IIB, 2nd Battalion, RTR, 1944.

In typical British fashion, the earlier types have multi-color camouflage schemes reminiscent of those seen in the campaigns in North Africa, while the later types, exemplified by the Sherman IIB (M4A1 76mm) are in single drab colors. More color is provided by the usual markings, such as AoS signs, divisional signs, squadron signs, AFV flashes, Allied stars, British roundels and various vehicle names.

The instructions are nicely laid out as half-tone drawings; they often feature more than one full view, as well as some scrap views. Features seen on specific tanks are and sub-types are accurately designated. Camouflage patterns are also shown, and references are listed. The modeler is also directed to Bisons web-site, where full-color instructions can be down-loaded and printed, as needed. Finally, a map is included that shows the designs as they appear on the sheet, with their superimposed alpha-numeric identifiers. These correspond to the call-outs for each tank in the instructions. This is quite handy and takes much of the guess-work out of the process.

The designs are printed by Begemot, Bisons usual supplier. The quality is excellent, with good color saturation, proper registration and crisply-detailed edges. The carrier film is matte and cut close to the edges of the designs.

Again, the modeler is offered lots of colorful markings, for a number of different tank types, all with a theme. This quality sheet offers excellent value for money and should please fans of British use of the Sherman in Italy.

Highly recommended.
