BISON DECALS

BD-35099, Caucases on Fire (1), Chechnya. 1/35th-scale water-slide decals for seven complete models, with instructions.

With the disintegration of the Soviet Union, peripheral conflicts erupted on the perimeter of the former Soviet Empire. Chechnya was the first of these brutal wars and it saw the deployment of the full panoply of Russian military vehicles. This particular decal sheet is devoted to the armored personnel carriers and infantry combat vehicles, both wheeled and tracked, that were deployed. They are as follows:

BMP-1, unknown unit, Grozny.
BMP-1, possible MP-unit, Grozny.
BMP-2D, VDV (Airborne) unit.
BMP-2D, unknown unit.
BTR-80, OMOH (anti terrorist unit).
BTR-80, unknown unit.
BTR-80, unknown unit.

The markings include a cross-section of tactical signs and numbers typically seen on Soviet and Russian AFVs since the end of the Second World War. Many of the markings are in several colors and some depict elaborate unit insignia. Additionally, multi-colored camouflage schemes adorn most of the vehicles, which, along with the provided markings, will make for rather colorful models. For more information, see here:

The designs are printed in Russia by Begemot. Their quality is excellent. Edges are crisp, colors are well-saturated, and registration is extremely good. Carrier film is thin, matte and cropped close to the designs edges. The instructions cover one side of two 8 x 11.5-inch sheets of paper and are in monotone. The modeler is given a web address (see above) to down-load and print a color version, but what is supplied is more than adequate to the task. In addition to placement and color notes, small details unique to the individual AFV, such as stowage is depicted. In order to help with design placement, a map is given, which cross-references the designs with an alpha-numeric call-out.

Modelers wondering what to do with their older DML BMP and BTR kits may wish to get hold of this sheet to breathe life into a long held-over project. This sheet will certainly help to inspire the completion of such a replica.

Recommended.
