Built on commission for a friend of my dad's. He requested unpainted, "silver." So it's Alclad and SNJ Acrylic darkened with a bit of grey on the fabric surfaces. He also wants to hang it, so that's why I didn't do the beaching gear. I had to add a little color, hence the prop tips and logos. We agreed that the early PBY's without blisters or landing gear, and the more rounded tail, were the best looking of all. It really is a very elegant flying boat.
Not a bad kit at all. The rivets are a little deep so I toned them down a little by spraying all surfaces with a heavy coat of primer and sanding it back down. The area on the hull around the gunners windows is a little soft, though. It's a plug in the mold which allows for the different PBY versions, and it just didn't line up too well.
