...(at least on a 1990 FXR) 12V+ positive goes to one side of the kill switch. It splits off there and feeds the switch next door which is your starter button. The E-start button completes the circuit going to the starter relay (also low current). Back to the kill switch. The 12V+ when switched to "on" completes a circuit going to 'power-on' the electronic ignition module. So it's not like the coil current is going directly through that small switch.
