here's my opinion on it. The lower the RPM that your engine runs at the better it has to be for it. Lower rpm's=less heat and a longer life. 4 speed trans has certain gear ratios that let you get the bike moving and end up at 1:1. A 5 speed adds a gear that usually is lower (more power out of the hole) and ends up at 1:1. The 5 speed will let you change your final gearing to get more top end which is the same as having lower engine rpm's at the same speed. A 6 speed would be even better because the 6th gear is an overdrive that ends up at less than 1:1 (.86?) and drops your engine revs another 500 rpm.
As I said, just my thoughts on it....I hope I made some sense(I know what I mean) lol...
