Ironhead cylinder info

A guy brought me a '70 ironhead (he thought it was a '72) to reassemble for him. He had the cylinders bored, new pistons/rings, the heads are being reworked....but the pistons are .040 over, 1000cc. The cylinders and pistons were "fitted" for each other (at an automotive machine shop). A 1000 cylinder is .188 larger than a 900. The question is, Could these be 1000 cylinders, will 1000 cylinders fit 900 engines or are these cylinders prepared to grenade? The only casting marks (1556) are on one cylinder base. Will the 1000 pistons work with 900 heads This is a real POS (basket) and he has also asked for me to help him git it running. I also git to tell him that he needs open it up for rod bearings. I don't believe he is prepared to spend $1500-$2000 on this thing.
