Roadking speedo died.

Was cruisin' along NM 529 at 70 mph when I looked down and my speedo went from 70 down to 60 then back to 70 again! Then 70 to 50 to 60 to 30 to 40 to 0 then 20 then 0 and nothing more. What happened? Sensor in the tranny?
It's a 99' Roadking. Old cop bike with 30K on it.
