Exhaust pipe question

Hello all,

I have a supertrapp 2 into 1 pipe on my 85 FXRS. The pipe is looking pretty shitty and I am not a fan of the sound either. It came with the bike and money is tight so it will be a while before I can replace it with the pipe I want. Hoping to get it for Christmas. Anyhow my question is this; The pipe I want to replace it with is from Twisted Choppers and is basically a very short 2 into 1 that dumps out at the bottom of the engine case. Couldn't I just use the saws-all on my supertrap at the joint where the two pipes become one and cut off about 3 feet of pipe and loose the baffle/muffler? I know I would prob have to tune the carb (S&S Shorty E)but I don't see the difference between the two options other than the twisted chopper pipe is larger in diameter. I will be wrapping the pipe to help hide the fugly and I will probably need to make a mount to secure the bottom of the pipe.
