'84-'89 you're supposed to fill the primary case until the level reaches the bottom of the derby cover hole. On '90-up wet clutches, you fill the primary case until the level reaches the bottom of the diaphram spring plate.
The '84-'89 primary takes almost 6oz. more to reach the bottom of the derby cover hole than the '90-up does to reach the bottom of the diaphram spring. If you overfill the '90-up cases, your clutch release will feel really erratic every time you start off (sometimes it feels OK, other times it feels like it's slipping), and you'll find it hard to find just neutral when you disengage the clutch. Check the H-D manual on this....
