Several years ago while the National Sales Manager for Justice Brothers automotive additives, part of my job was to go to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunions as a sponser of the events. There I was to hand out the Justice Brothers Spotlight Award. Poor me, what a crummy job. Here is the fun part. I got a chance to make very good friends with Fred Bear, Gene Altizer, and Dave Hales from the S&S race team. These are some of the nicest folks I have ever met. Now understand we met up with them for five years in a row between Beach Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, and Famoso Raceway in California. Here is a interesting insight. The guys were done with racing and retired. Gene got very ill. Fred Bear said "let's rebuild his old race car and maybe that will make him feel better." It worked. Later they brought the car to a local drag race for display. The NHRA officals inspected the car and asked if they would be interested in making a pass for the fans. It is all history now. I remember Fred Bear saying at Famoso."Who would have ever thought that we would be rebuilding our cars and doing this again?" He had tears in his eyes, But then they had just Cackeled a fueler at the Holiday Inn!! We all had tears in our eyes..
I am very lucky to know these guys.
