Good lord this model's reputation as difficult to build well is legitimate. The interior is quite nice but those clear greenhouse pieces are ill-fitting wretched litte devils! All of them have been faired into the fuselage with CA glue through hours of sanding and polishing. I cut out the port nacelle cowling flaps and individually reapplied them to match the other side's open position. I had to extend the nacelle foward with sheet styrene to give the cowling something to mount on. Tons of nose weight was used to get it sit on its tricycle gear. The rest of the build was uneventful. Testors Acryl gloss black was used, chipped off to reveal Floquil Old Silver below. The characteristic engine exhaust pattern was airbrushed on and augmented with gray chalk pastels. Old SuperScale decals were used.
It's a shame that AMTech never came though with their Black Widow series. The Monogram kit is a classic, but it really is time to be put out to pasture, particularly those dreadful canopy pieces.
