this is a Hasegawa P-51D built OTB. It is covered with household aluminum foil( except for a couple places on the wings and elevator ). the a/c name was a homemade decal. It was entered in the Nationals at Kansas City but didn't win anything. the markings were for an a/c was flown by the father of a guy I was stationed with when I was in the Air Force.

If you can find gold leaf glue, it's super sticky

and works on foil jobs like that. I've done half a fuselage of a 1/144 777 with it, works great! Hobby Lobby or Michaels is a good place to look.

foil adhesive...

November 3 2009, 1:44 AM

I smooth the foil out on a piece of glass then spray the side I want down(shiny or dull side) with an articst's spray adhesive. I use artist spray adhesive because the adhesive is of smaller particles than s spray can of regualr adhesive. then I cut a piece slightly larger than the area I want to cover and then apply it to the model and press it down. I trim the excess foil of the model with a sharp xacto blade. and peel of the excess. I try to follow natural panels. Foil has a grain to it so I will change the direction of the foil to try to creat different panel looks. On a wing, in order to avoid the foil from pulling up on edges, I'll try, wherever possible, to wrap one piece of the foil over the edge so the piece is is cut off on the top and bottom.
