Question about Gamo Scope Stop

I am new to this forum and new to airgunning. As many of you know, I have a new CFX SCI. I just received the scope stop on Saturday. My question, does the set screw go into the extra hole in the scope rail or does it clamp down on the flat of the scope rail? Right now I have it in the latter position. My trick of taking a bit of material off of the base of the scope rings so the screws did not bottom out before it clamped the rail seems to have worked.

My only complaint right now is that the scope stop had to be somewhat ahead of the set screw for the scope rail. It did not clear the head (top, since there is no real head on the set screw) of the screw cleanly. This put the scope a little further forward than ideal. This scope (2-7X)has too little tolerance on the eye relief.

I have a one piece mount on the way. I hope I do not have to machine it as well.

This is my cure for the scope stop.

take out the yellow bumper and turn around the stop to change the distance to the set screw.

Scope stop

I had problems with the Gamo stop and BSA 2-7 scope. And I agree, the eye releif isn't what it could be. I actually had the stop behind the front ring to get it where I needed it. And the damn thing still wouldn't stay put! I finally gave up and replaced the crappy mounts the rifle came with with a set of Accushot 2 pc. mounts, medium rise, I think. Not only do they work better, but since the stop pin is integral with the mount, they look better, too. Since then, I've replaced both with a Leapers full size 3-12X44 AO mil dot scope and Accushot 1 pc. high mount. Works great, and the big glass looks really cool on the CFX. Of course, I had to ditch the flip up lens covers to clear the loading port, but oh well. Good luck.

Dave

You have to use the hole

My Shadow came with the scope rail. After a dozen or so shots, the stop was bucking up against the plastic end cap. The factory had the set screw slightly behind the shallow hole in the rail, so it rode out. Haven't had any problem with mine once it was reset, but I haven't shot it that much. I guess you could just tap a new hole in the rail if you wanted to move the stop forward/backwards. Don't know what the rail, itself, is made of. Looks like aluminum. If so, that could possibly deform over time, elongating the stop hole. The aftermarket mounts are no doubt superior.

What, me worry???
