It use to be a shadow 1000, after a tear down and leaving out the teflon spacer under the top hat, It cronyed at 850 fps, and it is really fun to shoot now, oh and also stuff the hell out of the stock with foam, it shoots with a thud instead of a twang and bang! And another issue, My younger brother brought his socom extreme around for all to shoot, that is the least fun gun to shoot, deff. a hunter not a all day shooter, it like to thru my shoulder out just to cock it
and it does not like 10g crosman premiers, but is very accurate with 7.9's and very supersonic, loud crack, it cronied at 1265 with 7.9's, and its heavy.
I soft tuned my old Shadow 1000 down to about 660fps mainly by reducing the amount of preload created by the plastic apacer on the rear spring guide. I replaced it with a stack of washers about half as high. Shortened the tophat to cut some weight. It didn't have a teflon space though. Also shortened the barrel to 14" to improve the handling and balance. Now it's a fun all day shooter.
The Big Cat I bought as a return last year redefined harsh & noisy. I stuffed the stock with expanding foam, turned a new Delrin guide and tophat, added anti-rotation washers and reduced the spring preload and put it back together with the right lubes.
It's now so sweet from cocking to firing cycle that I end most shooting sessions with it just to remind myself that I don't HAVE to tolerate harsh springers and that 12 fpe/low 800s is plenty! Tom
