On 8/11 around 8:00 pm I got a call that a purebred female Catahoula needed a home immediately because the local shelter was full. By 9:00 pm she was at my house. The local shelter was full and she would have been at risk for being PTS if I hadn't taken her.
She may or may not be purebred. If she is pure, she was from a BYB. She's about 20" and 45# at one year. She's a pretty dark blue self-merle (no tan trim) with white toes chest and tail tip.
The original owner didn't do much with her--I think just threw her in a pen and fed/watered her. At around 8 months old he decided he didn't want her so he was going to shoot her. A neighbor found out about this, so he took her in. Unfortunately, his wife had their baby prematurely, and he couldn't keep the dog. His mother traveled to TX to see the new baby and brought the dog back with her to Indiana.
The woman who lives here in town has living with her: her father who has mobility problems, her 12-13 year old daughter, an elderly Boxer female, an older Boxer-Mastiff male, and many cats.
This little girl is about a year old (DOB 7/26/09), spayed (on 8/29/09) UTD on shots and HW meds. She's no good on a leash--I don't think she's EVER been on a leash and it scares her. She doesn't like riding in a car unless crated. She's good at going into a crate, but won't come out if you are standing just outside the crate. She will run into her crate at bedtime or when I get ready for work.
She will play with Ranger, but Beau doesn't really want her in his house. She seems to like Kitty (my neutered tomcat) and hasn't tried to eat him. To be fair, Kitty has been raised with dogs, so he doesn't do a lot of things to get a dog to chase him.
She wants to play and be your friend, but is guards her toys from the other dogs, but not from me.
She hasn't really been tested with little kids, but I think she'd be okay with an older child. Supposedly she's afraid of deep voices/men, but I have no way of testing that, either.
I live by myself and wasn't expecting to take on a rescue at this time.
She's very sweet and will come up and sit with her head in your lap or curl up on the couch for a nap. She is very shy (I think mostly from her rough start, but being bounced around can't help). I think she'll come out of the shyness, but she needs more time than I can give her right now.
If anyone can give me any assistance with this girl, let me know. I've had her 3 weeks now and really need to get her moved on to a forever home as soon as possible.
