Kelli & Sadie - another transport turned adoption!! LOL

Kelli was filling the first leg in a transport to get Sadie to her foster home.

I was skeptical when I picked Lady(Sadie) up from the vet because she was so
timid and afraid. I was scared she'd have too many issues for me to be a good
owner for her. She cowered in the back of the car and wouldn't even eat
the roast beef I offered her. She absolutely broke my heart and I was sure
I'd have to pass her up for someone who could rehabilitate her.

Well, I was totally wrong about that.

Upon being let out at my house, she's been a completely different dog.
Her tail won't stop wagging, she keeps running up to me to give me kisses,
she's stuck her nose in just about EVERY corner of my apartment and she's
dragged me through the neighborhood by a leash in pursuit of pigeons, squirrels
and my apparently very dog friendly cat. Speaking of the cats, she's
limited herself to curious sniffs; no lunging or snapping or anything. And
while Fuzz seems to be in mortal terror of her [which, honestly, is better
than I expected], she and Squishy are getting on very well.

Not to mention she's beautiful and has the cutest funniest doggy face
ever and her ears are so cute and floppy that I could just squeeze her to
bits.

She's laying down by the front door right now, impatient for me to wrap
this letter up so I can take her outside to play some more. And as for me,
I'm in love. I cannot thank you ladies enough for rescuing this dog!

Unless she does a complete 180 and turns into a cat-eating demon in the
next few days, I think it's safe to say that she's found herself a home.
I'll keep you posted over the weekend!

Thank you again,
Kelli and Lady

We're all keeping our fingers crossed that Sadie doesn't turn in to a cat eating demon!! Good luck and thank you!!

Am I late to the party? Super-Mega-Bump!

June 4 2009, 4:23 PM

Well, it only took me three years...better late than never happy.gif

Miss Lady/Sadie is now known as Gypsy! I only knew her as "Lady" from the transport and the vet's office, but after five minutes spent with this dog, I realized she was too wild and crazy to be a lady.

Gypsy is now sister to an Old English Bulldog and a American Staffordshire Terrier and of course, Fuzz the cat, who is still on the fence about whether he tolerates or hates her. Her doggy sisters are a saving grace; she's come so far in terms of socialization and confident behavior while romping with them!

I'm constantly amazed at how smart she is. She knows Sit, Down, Crawl, Beg and is working on Over (with many hilarious half-attempts). Also, out of necessity, I had to teach her 'Go' which basically means, "Oh my god, dog, you are all up in my business and need to be elsewhere." She interperets it as "Please do a quick circle around the couch and then crawl back up in my lap and stick your head in my mouth," but at least I get a five second break.

Her favorite thing to do is run! And run and run and run and run and LEEEEAAAAP and then run. She utterly fails at retreiving frisbies and balls because she gets excited and drops them and then trips over them. She runs so fast that if she heads out into water, she'll generally get up over her head before she remembers that she's not the greatest fan of water and then will flail like a drowning thing until she manages to flop herself back onto dry ground.

She also loves rolling in smelly things (urgh) and chasing squirrels (and actually managed to get about three branches up into a tree after one once).

Anyway, I wanted to thank everyone who helped with her rescue and who organized her transport, even though it didn't happen. And now, here are some longlong-overdue photos!

PS: Also, I never got anything about a bill or an adoption fee when I adopted her and am wondering if that still needs to be taken care of. Please let me know!

Hi Courtney!
I remember filling out the contract and paying a $25 fee, but it seems to me there was another adoption fee. And then I never heard anything about it.

But the contract has been filled out. happy.gif

And thank you for the compliments about my girl! She loves the camera.

Hey Kelli ..

June 7 2009, 12:22 PM

hmmm. That is bizarre. I don't know about the $25 fee, perhaps it was a deposit? Our adoption fee is usually $175-$225, and we would, of course, welcome the adoption fee at any point! happy.gifhappy.gifhappy.gif

I can give you an address to mail a check to, or you can pay it online through PayPal by using the address: info@catahoulaunited.com as the "receiver's" address. If you'd prefer to mail it in, shoot me an e-mail at courtneysgroves@hotmail.com and I'll send you the info!

Thanks so much for following up on this!
Courtney

I remember Lady -- she was on her super-beyond-last day at the KY shelter, right? Wasn't she on her way to NYC when you fell in love with her?
