Matherne at 105 frustrating squat day, continued on benches...but finished with a couple records with her 330 pull (PR) (junior american, collegiate american). finished as First Place Junior. Will definately total over 800 at Collegiates!
Millet at 132..depth problems, another rough squat day, but definately pushed up a nice nice PR bench of 143. finished with a pull just off her best, Second Place Junior.
Louque at 198. definately got robbed blind with regards to squat depth, but pushed it up twice. hit PR bench of 231, the gold medal for the entire class. two easy pulls to set up a third, then missed by a nanogram being able to lock out what woulda moved her up a place in the Opens. First Place Junior, Fifth Place Open.
Newman, Newman, Newman. PR squat of 347...then some other stuff happened. Rebuilding year. St. Louis 2005 will be her year for 1100. Third Place Open
Also worked with Katie Ford from UT. ugly squat openner, finished nicely....great lookin benches, ended up with a pr 248, deads were cautious, keeping the lead. took a bite on the last one, just not important enough to keep on pullin. she'll tell you too, she coulda pulled it up if she'd needed it. finished as First Place Junior and Open.
The meet was nice, very well run, but very very dull. I dont think there was a single misload, and the platform ran very smoothly and quickly. warm up room was ample, not overheated, and there was room to wrap your lifters that was the same height as the platform, ie; no ramp to negotiate.
The ridiculous admission fee of $10.00 was helpful in keeping any one but the family and freinds who accompanied the lifters to the meet from enterring.
Collegiates should be a very nice event. it should be roughly twice as many lifters, so all three days of lifting will be very full, but his crew can definately manage the work, and there is room to accomodate the family members and lifters awaiting their sessions in the audience.
My lifters and those from other schools I work with continue to make me proud to be a coach.
I am very excited to see what my lifters will be able to do this April at Collegiates.
This truly is a great competition, the ranks of Women lifters really do bring a different attitude to the meet. It is a very unique atmosphere in the world of sports.
