This was a huge meet, 701 lifters over 5 days. The meet was very well run and very lifter friendly. This is a true world meet, there were lifters from Finland, Sweden, Russia, Brazil, Colombia and Canada in addition to the USA lifters. Louisiana was well represented: Vince Breaux and Dr. Donald Dreyer both set world records. Dr. Allen Sheen place second in a very tough deadlift flight where 4 lifters opened with the same weight. I think Allen ended up with 386 in the deadlift. Allen also placed 3rd in the bench press. Brandon Bankston pulled 584 and was close with 622 and benched 501. Hunter Beale was there, I don't know his lifts. Frank Caminetta and James Burdette (now living in CA) had a great battle in the bench at 198. Burdette picked his weights just right and ended up winning with 639 and had a near miss with a world record at 650. Frank ended up with his opener of 611 and had a close miss at 628 and blew out his shirt with 633. World record holder Gustave Warrington only got his opener of 567 and missed 633 and 661. Frank's girl Lisa from Finland lifted on Sunday and I don't know her numbers. I had a pretty good day of deadlifting, opened with 633, then went 672 for the win and had a close miss with 700 on my 3rd. The knurling on the DL bar was very sharp and I tore my right had with the 700 as the bar got to my knees and had to put the weight down. The 672 was a 5 lb pr and got me first place in the master 40-46 as well as the men's open division and best light weight master lifter. Thanks to James, Frank, Brandon and Lisa for help and support. Other highlights: Tom Eismen 760 DL at 181, he also took a shot at 800! Steve Wong 881 BP. Jason Jackson 800 BP. Gunny Green close miss at 705 @ 220. Tiny Meeker lifted two days in a row and missed 900 six times. Overall a very good meet, every one was friendly and a good time was had by all. | |
