Wayne,
Single ply denim is allowed in USAPL meets. However at National Meets (which are qualifiers for an IPF Meet) I understand that only IPF "approved" equipment is allowed. I called Pete Alaniz (owner of Titan) who helps coach at IPF meets and he stated Denim material of any ply is not allowed at IPF qualifying meets or at any IPF World Meets. Which means that at meets like the USAPL High School Nationals and USAPL Collegiate National you could wear single ply Denim Bench Shirts because these meets are not qualfiers for the High School World Championships (since there are no World Championships for High Schools). However, if you are trying to qualify for the Junior World Team through the Collegiate Nationals it would be a wise idea to stay away from the Denim.
Sounds pretty ridiculous to me. We should either be totally aligned with our International Governing Body (IPF) or work on getting rules changed at the International level.
If this issue surfaces at the National Meeting in Nebraska this summer........I am of the opinion that we stay in line with our International governing body, whether we like it or not, in order to be consistent from meet to meet. My vote (your voice) would be to keep our rules in line (except for the two hour weigh-in times; unless you are looking to break a record). Let me know what you think........If I am off base here I will vote the way most of the USAPL Louisiana lifters want me to, regardless of my personal feelings on this issue. Thanks, Paul |
