Steve Baronich hosted this meet at Episcopal. He put on a great meet with much attention to the small details.
The girls lifted on Saturday morning and what a meet it was! Quite honestly, anyone of four teams were in position to win the girls team award. When the dust settled the St. Amant Girls team had won their 7th consecutive East Regional Championship. How close was it?
St. Amant: 39 points
Zachary: 37 points
Bishop Sullivan: 35 points
East Assension: 34 points
There were at least four final changes in the Deadlift which "backfired" on coaches' strategies due to incorrect addition. Thank goodness we have calculators velcroed to legal size clip boards.
I am very proud of the St. Amant Girls Team. We are finishing the year with only 12 girls. Our Regional Team consisted of 10 lifters (as we doubled up in all of the classes that we had lifters in). We had our first-year lifter 181 lber drink up to 182 lbs. to lift in the 198's (3rd place points there); our 165 lber. drank up to 166 lbs. and made the 181's (3rd place points there). We had no lifters in the 97, 105, 220, HW classes. This was our smallest team ever at St. Amant.........and they still found a way to pull it out.
They are now training for the State Meet to be held at St. Amant High on March 2,3.
