Morning of the Earth Live in Concert -
Back where it all Began!
THE MORNING OF THE EARTH LIVE CONCERT EVENT
North Head Sanctuary, North Head Scenic Drive, Manly
Sunday November 8, 2009 4:30pm
A worldwide icon of surfing, this seminal 70s surfing movie, Morning of the Earth, which was originally premiered at Manly Silver Screen Theatre in 1972, is now to be reborn as a live music and film event at the iconic North Head Sanctuary as a sunset concert on the green.
Almost 40 years later, the film is still regarded as the holy grail of surf movies and soundtracks. Created by Australian film maker, Albert Falzon, the film changed the way we relate to surfing showing that surfing was more than a sport it was also an attitude to life.
The Morning of the Earth Live Concert event will bring to life the full-length film played as the backdrop to performances of the full soundtrack by original writers and performers Brian Cadd and Tim Gaze (Tamam Shud). They are joined on stage by Mike Rudd from Spectrum, brilliant Aussie newcomers Lior and Old Man River and a group of outstanding musicians. Together they create an atmosphere of the 70s lived out in the sound and sight of today.
The event is a sunset concert on the green, to be held in the beautiful surrounds of North Head Sanctuary. Set on a huge green field, amongst the old Royal School of Artillery at iconic North Head, bring your picnic blanket to soak up a beautiful summer sunset in this huge field, right on the edge of the ocean. Food and drink for your picnic experience will be available on the site. Organisers have also made available a concession ticket for children under 12 in an effort to encourage a family environment.
There will be free STA buses operating from all the key public transport and car parking hubs to get you to the site. All you have to do is get yourself to Manly!
The Morning of the Earth Live Concert Event is the highlight of The Manly Festival of Surfing. From November 5 to 8, join legends of the surf and local enthusiasts for one massive celebration of Australian culture.
In what is hoped to be the biggest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Manly extends an open invitation to all Australians to a non-stop mix of not only board-riding itself, but of music, fashion, art, film and literature too.
Tickets for the Morning of the Earth Live Concert Event are available through www.ticketmaster.com.au and are on sale from Wednesday September 23, 2009.

I have been searching around the Northern Beaches for a residence to lease during my 2-5 year tenure here in Sydney. Suffice to say, a colleague at work said to just visit Northern Beach suburbs of interest during the day and spend the day and evening there to get a more accurate picture of a suburb. We need to consider our two 'near' teenage children and schools/safety etc.
I visited Avalon beach after many positive recommendations and we enjoyed the place thoroughly. White beaches and fantastic proprietors throughout the shopping area and cafes. That was until the 'locals' got off from work and went out to wine and dine.
Last night (Friday evening) my wife and I had dinner at an Italian Restaurant/Pizzaria in Avalon which served brilliant food. We were enjoying our meal and wine on the warm summer evening and the whole day we had and were discussing living there.... that was until a table of some very loud locals sat at a large table outdoors.
Don't get me wrong, this didn't phase us as we are use to loud people enjoying their meal and drinks.
****************************************************
What deterred us from 'ever' staying or recommending Avalon was with what happened next.
****************************************************
A large vehicle pulled up and was reversing into a parking space outside of where we were dining when a smaller Japanese car came in from the other side of the street and took his car space. I nearly saw them collide! The driver of the car that had his space taken approached the other driver and said he had nearly collided with him. He explained he had stopped and indicated he was occupying that space. The driver replied 'Well you are not a local then, nobody reverse parks here", where the other chap responded that the signs say "Front or Reverse to Kerb".
Just then the table of 15-20 'locals' exploded into insults abusing the driver. However, not the driver of the small car who stole the space, they abused the driver of the large car! I was amazed. The small car driver did leave but he too abused the innocent driver where I heard him call him a twit and 'You are not a local' etc etc.
When the rightful owner of the space went to reverse back into the space a more older man at the table of locals got his chair and sat in the car space while a drunken overweight woman continued abusing the driver.
It was a disgraceful scene, especially when they all started picking on this man and telling him to p1ss off, you are not a local etc. My wife thought the men in the group and the loud woman would assault this lone man by observing their actions and she was afraid but I told her not to worry. They were victimising him as he was alone. It was disgraceful behaviour.
Amazingly the gentleman being abused responded civilly and explained himself and his position very well but to no avail. The abuse continued. Particularly the fat woman. He stood up for his rights and said he has nothing to be ashamed off. A balding 30'ish man then started to insult him.. then another man with tattoos threatened him! I was livid! The lone individual then.... 'laughed at them all'! He obviously wasn't afraid or intimidated by these locals.. nor was he aggressive to them... he was as calm as in any conversation! In fact his laughter somewhat diffused the situation.
I believed at least some other people in the restaurant would have been more outspoken and assisted this man but in fact, I thought we would get abused also if we said anything to assist (especially with our accents)! :D
After that, only some of that group of locals continued to annoy the man. This group were all aged between 30 and 55 years! Disgusting behaviour and they seem proud to call themselves locals. It convinced us not to live there. We started looking around at all the people on the streets more!
The most amusing thing of the evening, which I will be writing home about was that a group of 20 motorbike riders arrived some 5 minutes later. Who did they come to meet but none other than this man who was being abused and victimised. The group of locals at the table quickly dispersed and some went to smaller tables while others left the restaurant.
This driver was victimised, he didn't seek revenge and escalate the situation, he appeared a decent upstanding character. Funny when the tables are turned how this group of locals quietened down and dispersed. I never told my wife that I secretly desired to see them teach this group of uncivil morons a lesson.
So that said, what other Northern Beach suburbs would anyone recommend without this 'Locals Only' attitude? Manly was nice but far too much activity. We are seeking the quiet beach lifestyle if that exists.
I'd appreciate any advice.
Regards

These people are not uncommon in this part of the world. It can be very tribal and small minded.
Primitives like this have discussed putting up a boom gate at Mona Vale in the past to keep non locals out.
The further north you go up the peninsular the more insular the mindset becomes.
Ah well thankfully not all are like this though it is more common in areas where the surf is best and the drongo surf mentality finds its way ashore.
Hope you have more luck elsewhere.
Personally I like the bustle of Manly.

I am moving to Manly at the end of Jul 07 and will be looking for work.
I was wondering if anyone new of any jobs that are going. I have been in an office for the past 7 years (as an accountant) so I would like to avoid this kind of work, if possible.
The main reason for posting here is that I want to do something interesting!
I'd particularly like to work in the outdoors or on the sea.
All things considered.
Cheers

Your wife and children need not know although we could find her work also,
as for the job being differcult after reviewing you photo i think you may find it hard to get your frist few customers but with are advice with 'extras' you can offer you should be able to over come this, as for dangers, none really as long as you protect yourself we will protect you. I only supervise at times as i find it hard not to reach into my pockets. job length vary depending on customer and abilitys.

I couldn't help but notice this particular message.
I am a long serving customer to the trade that you refer to, and I would gladly take you one for a couple of weeks intensive training.
The course itself does not cost you anything, and will give you plenty of 'on the job' experience. I find that most of my apprentices go on to become excellent pliers of this trade, but it doesnt stop there!
The possibilites are endless, 75% of my trainees go on to become smack-heads, and 40% go on to become crack-hoes.
This could be a life changing career move, I look forward to your correspondance.

do yourself a favour and go whale watching before it's too late! we went with sydney sailing (ph: 1800 043 993) and the trip is 3 hours long and we saw the whales for THE ENTIRE TIME. what is seriously cool is that they only take 12 people out at a time and it's on a yacht (kind of makes it feel right rather than going on a speed boat). we motored out of manly cove and then put up sail, turned off the engine and off we went. first we saw a seal (on the watson's bay side) and then we saw 2 male humpbacks.
they flipped, flopped, dived, blew water out, came close to the yacht (we had to stop moving due to regulations), swam on their backs, dived in tandem..........totally awesome creatures.
they have a small window for migration times and honestly it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.

What are the waves like on Manly in February. I am am ashamed to say that I can only body board. Will there be head height waves to boogie on? Will it be crowded? Will the weather be clement?

Hi all:
On next january (2007) I'll spend one month on Narraweena and I'm going to study the english language in the A.C.E. (Australian College of English - Manly).
I want to know an estimated price to have lunch decently
Thanks

Between $6 to $10 will feed you quite well.
Large Mac meal (mac, fries, coke etc)is just under $7, Donner Kebab about the same.
Fruit and vegetable shopping is much cheaper at Harris Farm (just outside Manly centre, near the round about, on your way home to Narraweena) than in Manly.
Have a good stay.

Your best bet for finding an apt is to visit local real estate agents. If you want to get an idea of prices and what's currently available, go to domain.com.au, and search under "rent" and the area.
Good luck!

Hi,
Could anyone tell me if there is a good place to take someone jet skiing as a present? Preferably in Sydney or Coastal regions near Canberra. Also, are people allowed to be on a jet ski by themselves? or do they have to be accompanied by an instructor?
Cheers

I have checked out a few car pool websites but no luck with my request so I
am seeing if anyone here will be able to help . . . .
I live in Newport and work in North Ryde. I haven't got my licence (yet)
and currently get a lift to work with with someone who is due to leave my
office. Does anyone on Freecycle drive between the Northern Beaches and
North Ryde daily for work/uni? If so would you be prepared to take a
passanger - I will help with your petrol costs!
I am very flexible re. times I arrive and leave work as I can start/continue
work at home.
Cheers
