Response to PATMORE WANTS TO GO BACK TO YEOVIL

Basically says that Wazza would have like to have stayed at Yeovil, but makes no mention of him even trying to get back there. He wants a nice reception from the Yeovil fans on Saturday and that's about it really.

Nothing to get all excited about.

As copied from the Yeovil mailing list the whole story is as follows :-

Patmore: I wish I was with Yeovil

FOOTBALL EXCLUSIVE
by Steve Cotton

WARREN Patmore goes into his first appearance against Yeovil Town since quitting the club last summer saying he wishes he was still at Huish Park. Patmore will face the Glovers in the colours of Woking when the sides meet in the Nationwide Conference at Kingfield on Saturday (3pm).

The 30-year-old hitman, who left Huish Park for Rushden & Diamonds in the summer only to join Woking in September, says he hopes to get a good reception from the travelling Yeovil supporters - but criticised the way the club had handled his contract negotiations.

Patmore bagged 140 goals in 290 games for Yeovil after being signed by Graham Roberts in 1995. But he claims he was only offered a one-year deal when his contract expired last summer. "I hope I get a good response from the Yeovil fans after six years there," Patmore said. "With the travelling I did while I was playing for Yeovil and what I hopefully achieved for the club, it was a shame it finished on a bit of a sour note with us not getting promotion.

"I am really looking forward to the game but if I score I might have to give it the old Denis Law and walk straight back to the centre. I have still got
big feelings for the club and that was proved when I came down for the Telford game. Everybody welcomed me as if I had not been away." And the striker, who became a firm Huish Park favourite during his six years in south Somerset, said he would liked to have remained with the club.

"At the time it had to happen (leaving), because I was only offered a one-year contract," he said. "I was offered three-year contracts from three other clubs and I thought it was a bit harsh that after six years Yeovil only offered me a one-year contract. The only thing I do not miss about Yeovil is the journey. I wish I was still there but the travelling would
have got to me."

After netting Rushden's first Nationwide League goal on the opening day of the season, Patmore quickly lost his place in the side and was lured to Woking by former Yeovil boss Colin Lippiatt, now assistant to Geoff Chapple at Kingfield. Patmore has scored nine goals since making his return to the Conference.

"I am enjoying my life again now," Patmore said. "At Rushden I was being told what to do and when to do it and I could not handle it. It did not appeal to me. I am not 100 per cent fit but I do not think I have ever been. I have played two games since coming back from injury.

"Myself and David Piper came out with the Yeovil players on their Christmas do. Obviously I have lots of memories and lots of friends at Yeovil, not only players but also behind the scenes."

Patmore is joined by Piper, Jamie Pitman, Paul Steele and Charlie Griffin as ex-Glovers at Kingfield.
Three Town players are struggling to make the Woking clash after suffering from either illness or injury. Boss Gary Johnson revealed Nick Crittenden, Tom White (both illness) and Steve Thompson (knee injury) would have been unable to face Forest Green Rovers on New Year's Day if the game had not been postponed.

Defender Gary Haveron was expected to seal a non-contract move to Dr Martens League Premier Division strugglers Merthyr Tydfil this week, after being told he would not be offered a contract at Huish Park.
"I could not offer him a contract because we already had three centre halves in Colin Pluck, Terry Skiverton and Tom White, plus Adam Lockwood can play
there," Johnson said. "It would not have been fair to him to hold him here."

The 20-year-old Ulsterman made seven appearances for Town during a three-month non-contract spell in south Somerset after signing from Swindon Town, where he played until boss Andy King was sacked. King has just been re-appointed as manager at the County Ground.

Johnson also said he had turned his attentions to the members of his squad who are out of contract at the end of the season. "I have put my recommendations for the players that are out of contract," he said. Stars
Darren Way, Anthony Tonkin, Crittenden and Skiverton are among those whose deals expire in six months' time.
