and I think he will be picked up again and really do the biz for a Conference Club. Shame we can't transfer a bit of his effort and attitude to a few others in the squad.....
Sorry Chris - I admire his effort too but he's not going to make the grade unfortunately. He's had plenty of chances, and tried his very best - but he's not a Conference striker.
I think he'll do a grand job in the Rymans, though, so good luck to him and I hope he scores shedloads of goals (rather like Payney did!).
so 30's past it is it? Young whippersnapper....hope Patmores not reading.....
Cat-flap to your negatism, good luck to the man. What should be an alarm bell is that he has made a major impression on us and half of the people who noticed still don't rate him...shame on the other members of the squad then!
It's just that it's obvious that for all his enthusiasm he just isn't a Conference striker. And no, 30 isn't past it - but I just think he's too lightweight and has unfortunately done all the developing he is going to do at 27/28! Good luck to him, and I'm not being negative - but I don't think you'd find many that think he would make the grade.
I really like Little Wazza, as I said above. I was really keen for someone with his enthusiasm to succeed but it hasn't looked like he's quite going to - just my opinion, that's all ... and it could be wrong. I just don't really think that in a couple of seasons he would really have developed at his age. Big Wazza's 30 or whatever but he's been doing it at this level (in some style) for years. My comments weren't about age in that sense, because we've all seen how age doesn't really matter if you've "got it" (Clive Walker, Stuart Pearce etc - and Thommo still going strong).
Some people don't like Fowler. I do and I think that maybe in a couple of years he could be good ... I may be wrong and he might not be but he's only 19 so time is on his side (might not be a good thing for Geoff though).
Don't take my post the wrong way though - there's nothing wrong with me disagreeing, I hope! It would be boring if we all thought the same...I'm not being negative about him and I wish him all the luck in the world. I just didn't think he looked like a Conference striker, that's all. I think Huckerby is stronger, if you have to do a comparison between the two - and Rands had a certain nastiness on the pitch (Alan Smith style) that worked. Little Wazza's got great work rate, and an enthusiasm that really stands out, as well as pace and decent ball skills - but I think that's it. Week in week out he's not quite looked the part, though I liked the way he played and enjoyed watching him - a big contrast from the so-called strikers with which we started last season.
